Students are encouraged, criticised and advised by an experienced, qualified art teacher, plus the very good artists in the group. It is such a friendly group.

Music: Active Listening to
A Monday morning of great music - what away to start the week!
In this music appreciation class (run as a shared-tutor basis by Margaret Hughes, Anne Pilgrim and Dr. Malcolm John) we explore many aspects of music from the Middle Ages to the present day - the history of music, composers, musical terms, instruments, etc. We listen to recorded music and, whenever possible, invite college music teachers to bring their music students to play and sing, and other local musicians to talk and bring us live music.
Class members also have an opportunity to participate.

Shakespeare's "other" plays
Yes, we all know Macbeth and Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet and what wonderful works they are. But so are many of the others, though they are not often performed. This class will read and discuss some of the less familiar plays of Shakespeare – Measure For Measure, The Winter’s Tale, Henry IV (1 & 2), Titus Andronicus, Cymbeline, The Tempest and others. We will make use of some video performances in our discussions, but essentially we will be using the text.

U3A Choir
This choir of mixed voices (S.A.T.B.) was formed in 2002 and has now built up a large repertoire of songs suitable for entertaining audiences in community and church groups, and in aged care facilities. We will continue to extend our repertoire with a variety of more challenging works and have fun making music together, improving our skills along the way. We hope to give more time to entertaining others and to preparing songs for Christmas during the second half of the year. Choral experience in singing in 4 part harmony would now be beneficial when joining this choir

World Literature
This year we'll be all "at sea". There is a wealth of good literature to explore from the ancient Greeks to the "boat people", from the deep ocean to the coast. Some of the authors we'll be considering include Joseph Conrad, Nam Le, Tim Winton, Rachel Carson and we''l start with some poetry. We live on an Island, and beside the sea, but it is less part of our literature -- or is it? We hope to make some fresh discoveries on our literary journeys.
